People Like Us
People Like Us is a danish brewing company, run by autists, supported by Mikkeller.
People Like Us was founded by the brothers Lars and Jesper Carlsen in August 2016, and the company is seated in Brøndby, Greater Copenhagen.
People Like Us are on a mission to…
1. brew great craft beer which is to be sold world wide
2. create a lot of jobs for autists and people from other socially marginalized groups – hoping to inspire others to do the same.
3. challenge societal conceptions of normality and communities
Run by autists?
When we say run by autists, it means that we hire autists to perform different job functions needed to run a brewery and to develop our business. The jobs created by People Like Us can both be found internally in our own beer production, externally in other companies, and through our labour force outsourcing.
We hire people to do what they’re good at, instead of expecting them to do what they struggle with. The employment is therefore based on the individual’s interests and competences, because we believe that the experience of meaningfulness is essential to success. In addition to that, a sensory profile is made on all employees, and we develop work-process descriptions in collaboration with employer and employee. We believe that a combination of such initiatives, together with understanding, is one of the keys to entering the labour market, and to initiate inclusion in a working place.
People Like Us share brewing facilities with Flying Couch Brewing in Copenhagen Northwest. Our ambition is to start building our own brewery in one year (2019). By January 15. 2018, we have four beers on the market. A Lager (Stereotypical Lager), a Pale Ale (Pale Alienation), an atypical Saison / Farmhouse Ale (Hell’s Saison) and an American IPA (Unpuzzled Infinity).
